Your go to guide to GALentine’s day

Because who needs boys when you have your bffs?

Happy Valentine’s day from my bffs and I to you and yours!

If you happen to find yourself single this vday, don’t fret! Instead of taking the day off to sit and feel sorry for yourself, crying over Jeremey who never texted you back from that one party and consuming an entire jar of Pilsbury “Funfetti” frosting, use this day to celebrate your kick-ass bffs. After all, they are the true loves of your life whether they show it in little ways by watching movies all day with you in your pajamas or in big ways by holding your hair back when you’ve had too much even though the smell of vomit makes them too want to vomit.

Sure, Valentine’s day is meant to be spent in a dress that you paid way to much money for, eating dinner you paid way too much money for and opening chocolates, flowers and presents you again, paid too much money for but for some of us, we’re happy to ditch our Valentine’s day duties and spend it in our pajamas, laughing with our besties and getting a little too buzzed off Rosé. Here are all the fun ways you can celebrate V-day with your friends because they deserve just as much love and affection as anyone else does!

Movie Marathon

The perf movie marathon attire

Grab your pajamas, chocolate and all the rom-com movies you can find! These are my favorite type of friendship date because there’s absolutely no reason to impress anyone. You can show up in your sweatpants, messy bun, make-up free face and not give a single care in the world. Snuggled up in blankets, surrounded by twinkle lights and your friends’ overly obnoxious laughter that you pretend to hate but actually love is the best way to get yourself out of the “I’m single, never going to get married, going to die alone with 50 cats” funk. Take this time to break your record of Lindt Milk Chocolate Truffles eaten in one sitting, bake way too many cookies and sit on your bum for the entire day. If you’re looking for movies to watch, try romantic comedies (a girl’s best friend next to puppies, diamonds and Sephora) like Stuck in Love, Clueless, or Breakfast at Tiffany’s. If you’re feeling frisky, also remember 50 Shades Darker is in theaters this week! (Helllllooooo Christian Grey…)

Hit up Marshall Street

You gotta end your evening with a cookie-wich from Insomnia

Going to ‘Cuse has its many perks, Marshall Street being one of the them. The array of restaurants to eat at is basically endless and this Valentine’s day, there is no one stopping you from eating at every single one. Take your friends on what I like to call, a food tour and try something different from every place on M. Street including Varsity Pizza, Chipotle, Funk n’ Waffles, Starbucks, Calios and Pita Pit. Then, go back to your dorm and stuff your face with a couple bites of calzone, a few slices of pizza and wash it down with the most sugary frappuccino on the Starbucks menu.

Cheers!

Ready a night out with these lovely ladies! Girls rule boys drool

This is your night! If you’re 21+, grab your girlfriends for a fun night out hopping from bar to bar to discover the best cocktails and spots to meet local (SINGLE) cuties. This is your chance to splurge on an extremely sexy outfit (think low cut, lacey or pink!), do your makeup like Kim Kardashian and show all those single boys what they’re missing. Plus, don’t forget to take a ton of pics for your snap or Instagram to show everyone how much fun you’re having without a man attached to your hip, smelling like woodsy- cologne and giving you the eye like he knows you’re gonna hook up just because he bought you a nice meal.

Shop ’till you drop ( And I mean literally drop under the weight of all your new purchases)

Another great thing about living in Syracuse is that we have the 5th largest mall in the country just minutes from our campus. Filled with countless stores ranging from high end to the cheapest of cheap, there’s bound to be something within Destiny USA Mall that you can convince yourself you need, even if you don’t, and splurge on it. You and your bffs work hard for your grades, putting in the work at 3 AM in Bird Library studying for a bio exam the night before (shame on you!) so this shopping spree is well deserved. Plus after you’re done, you can all go back to someone’s dorm or apartment and show off the new bodysuits, jewelry, makeup and handbags you convinced yourself you just had to have. After that, there’s no time for crying over Jeremy because your new mascara was $30.

Take a late night drive

I love having playlists curated for my mood and this one I made totally fits the whole laid-back, electronic 3 AM drive vibe

Driving late at night is one of my favorite things to do. There’s just something special about being in the car at 3 AM with your best friends belting out the lyrics to the new Chainsmokers hit or even a Jonas Brothers’ throwback. Late night drives are always where my friends and I laugh the hardest, sing the loudest and spill the juices gossip. There’s little distractions because there’s barely any people on the road so it gives you and your bffs the perfect time to get away from the hustle and bustle of campus, due dates and drama and just relax. The best part about it is that no one cares where you’re going. Maps and directions don’t matter, you don’t have a destination in mind so just jump on the nearest highway and hit the gas. If you happen to find yourself in a bordering state from the one your started in, well then I guess you drove just a bit too far. No biggie, all part of the adventure!

With the endless amount of things to do with you and your BFFs, there’s no reason so sit around and sulk with February 14th comes around. And if all else fails, pop the champagne, paint your nails and party on ladies!
