CHAARG takes on SU

And these are all the reasons why you should care…

CHAARG is a national fitness organization that stands for Changing Healthy Attitudes and Actions to Recreate Girls. The goal is to motivate girls to be the best version of themselves through healthy living and fitness and to “liberate girls from the elliptical.”

The community at Syracuse will be divided into small groups led by executive leaders, with each group having 10-15 girls. The groups will meet every week to do any activity that is related to healthy living. This can include working out, eating at healthy food places, writing in fitness journals etc.

There will also be studio spotlights every week, which is when an instructor comes to campus to lead a class with a different exercise each week. (For example, fitness cardio, spin, pilates etc) These sessions will take place next semester on Mondays at 8pm.

The organization runs similar to a sorority but is not Greek. There are 46 chapters nationally. The cost of being an active member is $45 per semester. Weekly newsletters will be sent out every week from nationals, which is based in Chicago. The newsletter will include fitness tips, weekly motivation tips, recipes etc. In addition, the online communities through Facebook are also a huge part of CHAARG and a great way to connect with girls at other schools.

“CHAARG means absolutely everything to me,” said Syracuse CHAARG Founding Ambassador Katie Dills. “It’s so so cool to me that it’s caught so much momentum and that a lot of people are talking about it because it is such an important concept. It is so important to live a healthy lifestyle…CHAARG is there to motivate people to reach their fitness goals, whatever that may be. We can help you to set those goals, and also reach them.”

“It will change the atmosphere of health,” VP of Membership Katie Vestal added. “It will bridge gaps in our community here and is a positive light… It creates an atmosphere that helps people encourage each other, and acts as a way to cope with stress.”
