SU soccer player nominated for CLASS award

Senior soccer player, Oyvind Alseth, has been nominated for the 2016 CLASS award

Every year, the NCAA selects a handful of college seniors to nominate for the CLASS award. CLASS stands for “celebrating loyalty and achievement for staying in school.” The award recognizes student-athletes who have proved themselves on the field and in the classroom. Each nominee must excel in the areas of community, classroom, character, and competition.

This year, SU senior and soccer star Oyvind Alseth has been nominated for this prestigious award. The Tab sat down with him to discuss his excitement, his challenges, and how he manages his time as a student athlete.

With a busy practice schedule and a full course load, Alseth has excelled in school and in soccer– despite the pressure.Whether you’re involved in a sport or not, we all know how difficult time management can be.  “I always try to avoid loads of work for times of competition, which allows me to focus solely on soccer when that is needed,” Alseth said. He also added that he tries not to take on too much work so that he can focus on excelling in the things that he’s working on.

When commenting on how it feels to be nominated, he says, “…it is a great honor to be nominated for the CLASS award. I take pride in performing well in everything I do, and to be recognized for both athletic and academic performance is very motivating for me.”

As for what’s kept him going all these years, Alseth told The Tab, “I think the main thing that keeps me motivated is the people who have “invested” in me.”

He went on to talk about how thankful he was for the opportunity provided by his parents to come to SU and the constant support from his coaches and the school.

The winner of the 2016 CLASS award will be announced in December at the 2016 NCAA Men’s and Women’s College Cup.
