I love Milwaukee and so should you
No I don’t live near cows
To other people, living in a suburb of Milwaukee, Wisconsin may seem dull or farm-like; but to me, it is one of the greatest cities in the world. Here’s to growing up in MKE.
Weekends in the Third Ward
The Third Ward is a beautiful district of Downtown Milwaukee separated by the Milwaukee River, with quaint streets lined with local shops, art galleries, and restaurants. It makes for a perfect night out, with limitless things to do.
The Public Market
Milwaukee’s Public Market is your one stop shop for the best food, coffee, and household needs. It has different vendors selling anything from some of the freshest seafood you’ll ever eat to homemade hummus to mouth watering cookies. Even thinking about the Public Market makes me want to take a flight back tomorrow.
Summerfest
If you live in the greater Milwaukee area, Summerfest is music to your ears…literally. Summerfest is the largest music festival in the world in the heart of downtown and on the lakefront. It is eleven days long with some of the biggest names in music from Bruno Mars to Imagine Dragons to Selena Gomez to The Rolling Stones, and everyone in between. If you ask a local Wisconsinite their favorite season, it is undoubtedly Summerfest season.
I miss the food more than anything else
Is it possible to survive without Belair, Ian’s, North Ave Grill, Comet Cafe, Screaming Tuna, Pizzeria Piccola, Topper’s, Sobelmann’s, Ma Fishers, Real Chili, and Cafe Benelux? I don’t think so.
Going Up North is expected
If you don’t own a lakehouse on one of 15,000 beautiful lakes in Wisconsin, one of your friends will.
Coffee
Who needs Starbucks when you have Colectivo, Stone Creek Coffee, Valentine, Anodyne (my personal favorite), and so many others.
Small World
If you live in a suburb of Milwaukee like I do, you have a close relationship with your neighbor, went to the same high school as the majority of people on your block, and block parties are the highlight of each summer.
Your ‘accent’
I still don’t hear it.
The ‘C’ Foods: Custard and Cheese Curds
First off- Custard is NOT ice cream. Just go to Gillie’s, Kopp’s, Leon’s, Culver’s, Kitt’s, this list goes on. This creamy delicacy will make you immediately fall in love with MKE. Secondly, yes, cheese curds may sound gross as ‘fried balls of cheese,’ but believe me, they will change your life.
The Scenery
Surprisingly, Milwaukee is close to some of the most beautiful hiking spots I’ve ever seen, such as Lapham Peak, Devil’s Lake, and more.
If you don’t know Wisconsin sports, are you even from there?
Not knowing the score of the Packer game will definitely make you a minority.
You just really have to see it
I could go on for hours about how surprisingly amazing Milwaukee is, but really, you just need to see, eat, and explore your way through it.
