Advice to the Class of 2020 from the current freshman class

You have officially made the GREATEST choice of your life

The May 1st deadline is over and you are now officially a part of the Orange family, thus you have made THE BEST decision that you will EVER make.

Throughout the months leading up to move-in day you will hear a whole smorgasbord of “How-Tos” and “What To Brings”, but we wanted to deliver to you the ultimate list of tips and tricks of how to navigate your first year on The Hill.

So, get excited, add ORANGE to your wardrobe and prepare yourself for the time of your life.

Here is what people had to say:

Hannah Salvador, Undeclared

“Bring shower shoes!!!!!”

Yes, these seems like quite the obvious item to pack for dorm life, but one would not believe the amount of people who brave the barefoot life in communal bathrooms. *ew*

Asantewaah Ofosuhene, CRS

“My mom always said, ‘don’t worry if you’re sitting along or anything, friends will come!'”

This is so true! In your first week on campus, you will meet so many people and over time, you will find the friends that make every day better. Just remember to be yourself and keep an open mind because you never know!

Amorray Marcano, BDJ

“GET OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE!”

College presents you with many opportunities to expand your horizons and truly find yourself. Take this chance; meet new people and join a club that interests you even if it is intimidating.

Katie Pirzadeh, CRS

“Take as many opportunities as you can.”

Here at SU, there are sooooooo many things that you can get involved in. Take advantage of this! You will make new friends and gain new experiences that you probably would not get out of your hometown… ya college!

Emma Lipstone

“Don’t hookup with someone who lives across the hall from you… on the first weekend of school”

Floor-cest is awkward. Kudos to those who engage in this common relationship within the first months of adjusting to college… power to you. But, it may just be worth it to avoid the awkward elevator rides and floor-lounge encounters all together.

Kerry Judge, Public Relations and Marketing

“Don’t start studying for a final the day before… because then you end up like me. Sleep deprived, running on coffee and the janitor and librarians at Club Bird come to know you as the girl who cries once an hour.

Another bit of advice, stay in one Saturday and go to Whitman and see all the drunk people who go into Whitman at 3am… its fun… kind of… not as fun as DJ’s though.”

You heard it here first… DJ’s can be fun! Enjoy that while it lasts! And,as Kerry stated, waiting for the night before an exam to study may NOT be the *best* choice to make but, ya know, sometimes it may be inevitable!

And before we sign off, here are a few more *Tips for The Cuse*

DJ’s is where you peak as a freshman.

Embrace the sweaty, muggy and interesting atmosphere of this place. Indulge yourself in a rum bucket or two and let the memories unfold.

You will make a lot of your first friends at ‘Cuse on your floor.

Embrace the days of BBB, The Mount and so on.

The Mount steps get really slippery during the winter months.

Proceed with caution.

You don’t have to succumb to the cult of the Geese.

Canadian Geese, that is. While staying warm should be your number one priority, joining the flock doesn’t have to be.

Basketball season is the shit, for a lack of better words.

Castle Szn,amirite?!?!

This was when we secured a spot in the Final Four… Good times

Tickets for UU events sell out quick.

And then people inflate prices on class Facebook pages. Don’t be that guy, just buy your damn ticket on time.

And, last but not least, enjoy this beautiful campus everyday.

‘Cuse is the best and you will soon see why.
