We’re the first large private university to back Senate’s sexual assault bill

It’s official

Yesterday, February 17th, 2016, Syracuse University was named the first large private institution to back the Senate’s Campus Accountability and Safety Act.

The act requires colleges to have their students complete an anonymous sexual assault survey each year.

This is a huge step forward in our efforts to combat sexual violence on campus. With the anonymity of the survey, students will be able to report without feeling the pressure of being alienated by any of their peers, and will finally have the school able to report a more accurate report on the occurrence of sexual violence.

Syracuse University is known as one of the nations leaders in attempting to combat sexual violence across university campuses, by not only having a week dedicated to sexual violence via the “It’s On Us” campaign but also having the Vice President and former alumni Joe Biden speak on behalf of the issue. All of these events helped spread awareness and the signing of this bill is another major step forward.
