Meet the hilarious comedians behind Humor Whore

‘We make weekly sketch comedy videos for your comedic G-spot’

At Syracuse, there exists a profound group of whores.

Of course the group I’m speaking of is Humor Whore, the group who create hilarious videos. The club consists of 25 active members with majors across the board who all have an act for comedy and film production.

Since joining YouTube in 2010, they have acquired 645 subscribers and have 359,184 views in total. They have produced well known videos around Syracuse like Boeheimian Rhapsody, Cuse is Cray, and SU State of Mind.

All videos required a larger amount of production which they create once a semester, but they also create sketches weekly that follows a wide variety of funny topics.

Chris McKenna, a junior TRF major, joined Humor Whore his freshman year and is now the executive producer.

Chris said Humor Whore is unique because of their variety of staff who contribute to their work.

“We have a diverse group of people, majors all across the board. We get Science and Biology majors, writing majors, really anybody. It helps to add to our wide voice and range of comedy.”

You do not have to be a film or acting major to be involved, you just have to have an aptitude for comedy and a willingness to contribute to the team and learn skills such as writing scripts, acting or producing.

“Every Sunday we have a meeting and there’s a time where people just pitch ideas. Anyone’s allowed to take the ideas and make a script with anyone else in the club.

“We go through that script, whittle it down, improve upon it in more meetings then we take the finalized scripts and decide to set up productions.

“We get actors props and equipment and generally the type of stuff we produce is two or three-hour shoots.”

I went to one of their shoots for a project in the works called Stoney Baloney. It is an Amanda Show style commercial.

Chris described it as “a short script super wacky Adult Swim, Eric Andres type of skit. Where it was just very irreverent, kind of messed up and twisted but not inappropriate kind of thing – it’s not vulgar but just fucking weird which is one type of humor that we produce.”

This shoot took place in Thornden park and had about eight people working it. There were a variety of actors and crew members, taking a professional tone but still it was quite relaxed and fun.

Anyone was welcome to throw in suggestions and everyone was able to to participate in the skit in some manner no matter what position they held in the club.

Some other members shared why they love being a part of Humor Whore: “What I am proud of with Humor Whore is that we don’t really buy into any parameters that are set by other clubs. We usually don’t really care if something is too inappropriate.

“We’re inclusive in meetings, you can be a scared little freshman and come in and you can do anything you want. If you want to do it and you volunteer – do it. It is what you make it.

“It’s a learning experience for anyone who wants to learn. It’s not dominated by the leaders in the club, they’re there to oversee it and help more so than take control.”

This attitude is what makes the products of Humor Whore so unique. There is no intense seniority and any person involved is allowed to participate in any form that they are interested in. It’s not a competitive field it’s all for the love of comedy, and that is an aspect which really makes their style of videos so unparalleled in comparison to other groups in Syracuse.
