Syracuse fires head football coach Scott Shafer

He was fired after an eight game losing streak

SU’s head coach Scott Shafer has been fired, Sports Illustrated reports.

Shafer has been with SU for seven seasons, four of which he was the defensive coordinator before he was promoted to head coach after former head coach Doug Marrone took the head coaching job with the Buffalo Bills.

In the last three seasons, Shafer has carried a win-loss ratio of 13:23 as HC.

His eight game losing streak this season was enough for the program to look for new leadership.

According to the Daily Orange Shafer will still coach in the last game of the season against Boston College. “A national search (for a new HC) will begin immediately” according to SU director of athletics, Mark Coyle, which he made in a statement regarding the termination of Shafer’s contract.
