Mothers of Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown at Syracuse tonight

“No one is trying to silence these thugs mothers mothers. We just don’t buy your BS.”

Today, the mothers of Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown will be making an appearance in the Schine Student Center in Goldstein Auditorium from 7-9pm.

The event is titled “(In)Justice For All” and is being held by the National Pan Hellenic Council which consists of nine historically black Greek lettered organizations.

Lesley McSpadden, mother of Michael Brown, and Sybrina Fulton, mother of Trayvon Martin will be present for the discussion tonight in Goldstein Auditorium. Although this is not the first time the mothers have spoken on the tragedies of their sons, it will be their first time doing an event such as this one.

Trayvon Martin, 17, was shot and killed by George Zimmerman on February 26, 2012. Over a year later in July 2013, a Florida jury came to the conclusion Zimmerman was not guilty when it came to Martin’s death and said the self-defense argument was justified.

Michael Brown, 18, was shot and murdered by Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson on August 9, 2014.  In November 2014, St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney, Robert McCulloch as well as the grand jury, came to the conclusion they were not going to indict Wilson for any crime charges related to Michael Brown’s case.
The panelists at tonight’s event consist of the President of the National Bar Association, Benjamin Crump, CNN legal analyst Sunny Hostin, CNN news anchor Fredricka Whitfield and Department of Public Safety Chief Bobby Maldonado.

As of last week, the event has sold out. It was open first to SU students and ESF students and the remaining tickets were open to the community. If one has questions during the panel discussion they should use the social media hashtag, #IFACUSENPHC

On October 3rd The Daily Orange wrote an article about the event taking place this evening.

People in the community expressed their outrage in the comments section of the story.
