We interviewed ‘Weather by LaNia’…on Snapchat

‘The freaking weather controls our moods, and that’s crazy’

From being bullied to spreading positivity through loving yourself, LaNia is an inspiration to all.

LaNia Roberts, a sophomore majoring in Painting, has blown up the campus Snapchat story with her positive attitude.

During her high school years, she was known as the girl sitting alone in the back of the classroom, yet quiet and intellectual.

Coming to Syracuse she knew it could be an opportunity to show people her true self. She told The Tab: “I decided to unzip myself and let the rainbow inside of me shine.”

Snapchat interview with LaNia

It is no secret that LaNia is a campus sensation.

Brandon Mosher, a senior told The Tab: “It is a good thing to wake up to and see her outlook on life and the smile on her face every day.”

Asking her thoughts about “Weather by LaNia” Haley Robinson a junior said, “When I am in a bad mood and see her Snapchats, I won’t lie, they do make me smile!”

“I saw LaNia walking around campus one day and I wanted to say hi because I felt like I had known her for years. I realized I had never met her before and she wouldn’t know who I was. She is a Syracuse celebrity!” says  Alexandra Robertson a freshman.

The Tab decided to get to know LaNia better through her favorite media… Snapchat.

“The freaking weather controls our moods, you know and that’s crazy. And I want to let people know even though the weather is very gloomy and might be messing with you, we are still smiling today people.

“We are still putting a smile on our face because it doesn’t matter at the end of the day, I am not letting this gloomy sky affect me.

“But if it’s good like this I am gonna let it affect me, if the sun is shining I’m gonna let it affect me!”

The Tab asked LaNia if she ever felt down and didn’t have enough positive energy to post a snapchat for the campus story.

She said: “At one time I was very sad in my life. I had times where I did not ever have that positive energy and so I know how it feels to be at that very low.

“There have been times in my life where I have been myself, I have been loved and I have felt that positive energy full on for a very long period of time.

“Now as I got mature I know that I could choose whether I want to feel low or high. When I learned that, that I could actually choose that, I chose high all the time and to be positive all the time.

“Keep on smiling, Keep on going! When I create that positive energy for myself I create it for other people too.”

LaNia explained one of her biggest life lessons came from her dad when she was in high school.

In those four years LaNia had an Instagram account with 37,000 followers where she would share her artwork and received her first little taste of fame. Her dad sat her down one day and told her, “LaNia you ain’t shit and I ain’t shit and don’t think because you got a lot of thirty-something whatever you got on Instagram, don’t think that you are better than anyone else.”

“It’s crazy because I try to explain to my family that people know me on campus without me knowing them sometimes. However, it’s really hard to explain the context of it because of the fact that they are not with me when there are people asking me for a picture. It is sad that they are not able to see it with their proper eyes how their child is loved.

I am so grateful and thankful to have this, this great gift that God has giving me…this is only the beginning for me.”
