How to be Single on Valentine’s Day, according to a USC student

Ovaries before Brovaries

Valentine’s day is quickly approaching, and everyone is immediately reminded of how single they are. But being single doesn’t have to suck. Grab your besties, and have a fun night with the girls.

Sleepovers don’t stop after middle school:

Who said sleepovers have to stop at a certain age? Even in my 20’s, the idea of having one of my girlfriends spend the night gets me excited. Valentine’s day is the perfect excuse to bring everyone together, eat junk food, watch every “chick flick” imaginable and really just treat yourself.

Make a sweet treat, like red velvet cake bites!

Valentine’s day is the holiday of chocolate. Candy hearts and chocolate boxes pop up at every store you go to. Instead of buying one box of chocolates, make these sweet treats for you and your friends to share.

Even better: you can find cake mixes and frosting at the Dollar Store!

You will need: one box of red velvet cake mix, frosting of your choice (I used vanilla) and white chocolate chips

  1. Cook the cake mix according to box instructions and let it cool completely.
  2. Crumble the cooled cake into a bowl with the full container of frosting.
  3. Roll the cake and icing mixture into balls (or hearts) and refrigerate for 20 minutes.
  4. Take the rolled balls/hearts and cover them in melted white chocolate- refrigerate until solid
  5. EAT UP

Treat yourself with a DIY face mask:

Having all your friends together as an adult is even better than when you were a kid because the likelihood is you don’t see all your friends frequently. Face Masks scream GNO – or in this case girls night in. Instead of going to the drugstore, or really splurging on a mask from GlamGlow, make some at home! There are tons of DIY face masks and they’re all from stuff you already have in your house

  • If you have acne prone skin:

You will need: four non-coated aspirin tablets, honey and water.

Combine the aspirin tablets with two tablespoons of water and one tablespoon of honey.

Apply generously to your whole face, or just problematic areas. Let sit for 10-15 minutes and wash off with warm water.

  • If you want glowing skin:

You will need: four tablespoons of honey and two teaspoons of lemon juice

Combine the honey and lemon juice in a bowl and apply generously all over your face. After 10-15 minutes rinse with warm water to reveal fresh, glowing skin.

  • If you have dry skin:

You will need: three tablespoons of plain yogurt and one tablespoon of honey.

Combine ingredients and let sit for 15-20 minutes. Rinse with warm water and follow with your favorite moisturizer.

Pro tip! Apply the three masks in the areas of your face that need them for a more individualized face mask.

Watch all the romance movies available

Valentine’s day is the perfect excuse to pour yourself a glass of wine and get your romance movie fix.

Plus with no boys around, you can all swoon over how attractive the male leads are.

My Netflix recommendations:

  1. 13 Going on 30: the best movie to give you hope in your childhood romance resurfacing as an adult.
  2. How to lose a guy in 10 days: Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson- need I say more?

But any Nicholas Spark’s movie is always a good call even though they might not all be on Netflix.
