We asked students about their craziest RU bus stories

‘There was a girl that threw up on the bus, and threw up into someone’s mouth by accident’

Weird experiences at Rutgers occur so often, it’s hard to even label them weird. But some of the funniest, or most cringeworthy stories undoubtedly come from riding the buses. Yes, because half the time it’s filled with wild, shamelessly drunk college kids. Thank you alcohol for turning us into our own entertainment. Then again, on the average, sober Rutgers bus, the strangest of experiences still take place. Lo and behold the best of Rutgers bus stories. Warning: Some of these stories are graphic.

Mike, Senior, Animal Science

“There was a girl that threw up on the bus and threw up into someone’s mouth, on accident. That was really bad.”

Dina, Sophomore, Supply Chain

“It was on a late night bus, you know, a little crazy… everyone was tired from classes, feeling some type of way. And this girl –  I guess she had food poisoning – she threw up all over this guy and then everyone on the bus just starts chanting at the guy. We were like, “Take off your shirt!” And he took it off, left it, and got off the bus. There was a lot of comradery, everyone was like, “Yeah! Take off your shirt!!”

“Was this even a drunk bus?”

“…it was.”

Crystal, Junior, Statistics

“So we get on a bus and we saw this one guy at a frat before. We were like this kid’s gonna barf. He’s wide eyed and everything. At the SAC, this kid runs off the bus and the bus driver gets out and chases him. He gets back on the bus and the bus driver gives him a bag. We’re on the bus to Busch and he suddenly starts throwing up — like everywhere. Everywhere but the bag. Before he gets off at his stop, he whips the bag around and hits this girl that has been staring at him the whole time. She was horrified. The vomit on the outside of the bag goes all over her. He ran out at Silvers. We know he didn’t live there though so I don’t know where he was going. I would’ve thrown up.”

Luis, Junior, Engineering

“This one guy was mad that the bus didn’t let him pass so he sped up in front of the bus and slammed on his brakes. Every one went flying forward. It was like 10am. I was like wow that guy was such a jerk. The best part is he turned around and flipped off the driver after. The driver was really cool about it though.”

Joanna, Junior, History

“Once during freshman year my friend and I were on the bus together. We were sitting down – this bus wasn’t full there were seats on this bus – and this guy was standing directly across from us by the doors. That would’ve been totally fine except this guy was wearing basketball shorts and had a raging boner. I don’t get why he just didn’t turn around, like he obviously knew. To make it worse it was on the REXL. Probably the worst 20 minute drive of my life.”

Akia, Senior, Journalism and Media Studies

“I was just sitting down on the bus and then this short guy with a pot belly gets on and sits on my lap. He didn’t say hi or bye. He just got up at his stop and left. I wasn’t sure if he knew I was there or not and I felt awkward, so I wanted to tap him but I just ended up dealing.”

Tyler, Junior, Human Resources (left) and Kunal, Junior, Finance (right)

Tyler: “My craziest story was probably just someone yakking on the bus and we all had to get off, that was the worst.”

Kunal: “The craziest was definitely Halloween my freshman year. Somebody broke a window on the bus and they stopped the LX buses for like an hour so nobody could go to College Ave on Halloween. We took an Uber there.”

Leah, Sophomore, Finance

“I saw someone take their shoes off the bus, like barefoot.”

Leah, Junior, Political Science Major

“At the train station there would be this homeless guy that would sit on the bench all the time, and the bus driver, he was very outgoing, he would be like ‘Oh, yeah. I know that guy. He’s great! I give him food sometimes. He’s great, he doesn’t even do drugs or anything!’ It was really ridiculous.”

Obviously, the moral of the story is, the drunk buses are where it’s at. You can’t fully experience Rutgers if you don’t take the buses. There’s no shame in taking a ride for funsies — who knows what might happen?
