Take a tour of the brand new Jameson dorm on Douglass

Spoiler alert: it’s super nice

The 2016 fall semester has brought a number of new buildings to Rutgers, among those being the Kathleen W. Ludwig Global Village Living-Learning Center.  Opening doors just one year after its groundbreaking ceremony, the Kathleen W. Ludwig Global Village Living-Learning Center is the newest member of the Jameson Complex, where it is known as Jameson G.

Although Jameson G fits in comfortably with the fellow residence halls in Jameson, its interior definitely sets it apart from the rest, making it one of the best places to live within the complex. However, all members of the Douglass Residential College are welcome to enjoy the state-of-the-art facilities and snazzy lounge spaces, including commuters, since they have access to the first floor of the building from 8 am to 9 pm and Jameson residents have 24 hour access.

The first floor boasts three classrooms and a large assembly hall that seats close to 200 people. The lounge space offers a variety of comfortable seating and a decorative fireplace with a portrait of Mabel Smith Douglass, the founder of the New Jersey College for Women, which soon evolved into Douglass Residential College. It is safe to assume that Mabel Smith Douglass would be proud to see how the school she had knocked on doors to fundraise for has grown into one of the leading innovators in women’s education.

The Kathleen W. Ludwig Global Village Living-Learning Center will play an important role in the Global Village Living-Learning Community. The Global Village is a living-learning community in DRC that features a number of themed houses, such as the Human Rights House, where students learn about that theme within a global context.

Dr. Gwendolyn Beetham, the director of the Global Village, highlights the potential the new building offers the community, stating “the building allows us to better collaborate with partners across the university and beyond – whether it means hosting conferences with local organizations, or organizing skype conversations with our partners around the globe.”’
