Class of 2020: So you’ve committed to Rutgers

First of all, good choice

Welcome high school seniors, transfer students, and graduate students to Rutgers, one of the best schools since 1766. Cue the sunglasses emoji. I’m going to give you five reasons why you should be even more excited then you already are. Also, this article can serve as a reminder to current students as to why they should consider themselves lucky to be going to such an awesome university.

It is the state school of New Jersey

Take that TCNJ. You may be The College of New Jersey but we are New Jersey’s state university, which is ten times cooler. I mean, we’ve been around for 250 years… In all seriousness, some people may forget that Rutgers’ official name is Rutgers , the State University of New Jersey. Complete with a diverse student body, more resources, and surprisingly lower tuition, Rutgers will give you the education and opportunity you paid for without a super-high-price tag.

We’re going to be in our third year of being in the Big Ten

Slowly, but surely, our presence in the Big Ten won’t be considered a joke. We’ve got a new football coach and a new basketball coach. To top it all off, there are plans in the making to amp up Rutgers’ sports venues so we can adequately compete with the other Big Ten schools. The Big Ten is not only an honor to be a part of for sports, but for academics as well. With more to offer in resources and funding, the academics at Rutgers will be even more prestige than ever before.

Rutgers students are experts at starting drunken bus chants- an admirable resume

Like clockwork, on the way to College Ave or High Point Solutions stadium or on the way back, there will be a RU-RAH-RAH chant that came from the university’s fight song “The Bells Must Ring.” Another permissible and popular chant is a good ol’, “Ayyy we some some pussy,” chant, just because it’s funny. Especially when you’re drunk.

You know, whatever the mood of the bus calls for. It takes balls to start a chant for a crowd of people to participate in, which Rutgers students definitely have.

We know how to party

Between tailgates, dages, and parties, we find any excuse to party any time, any where. Living on Easton Ave, I especially know this, since I hear Rutgers students galavanting around Easton Ave from 10 p.m.– 4 a.m.

College Ave, the best campus, is getting a makeover

It’s gonna be HUUUUUGE.

The Rutgers Future by DEVCO project is underway with the completion of a new Honors dorm building last Fall and the new academic building and apartment complex, The Yard @ College Ave, is set to open next Fall. Not only will we have more classrooms to learn in, more places to study, and more apartments on the best campus, we’ll have more options to eat with eight eateries and a convenience store! (Obvi, the best part about it).

The Yard @ College Ave in it’s entirety

From the academics, to the social gatherings, Rutgers has everything and anything you could wish for in a college experience. Cheers to you, incoming freshman, transfer students, and graduate students, get ready for a hell of a time.
