When will The Halal Guys finally open in East Brunswick?

Hello gyro, my old friend

Rutgers, home of the Fat Sandwich, has no shortage of munchies food. And now the food scene’s about to get that much more exciting. The Halal Guys are opening up in East Brunswick.

Yes. This is happening.

The world-famous chicken and rice (“CNR”) vendors are coming right to our doorstep. If you’ve never experienced the joy that is CNR- well, soon, you’ll be able to without having to go all the way to the Big Apple.

The restaurant announced they were opening as long ago as November, and on their Facebook page they keep teasing us with more updates, but won’t tell us when they’re officially opening.

Earlier this week they posted: “We are not open yet. But we are getting closer. We appreciate your patience and support.”

The Halal Guys, for those who don’t know, started out as a hot dog cart on the corner of West 53rd & 6th Avenue. According to their website, “they recognized a huge demand from Muslim cab drivers looking for a halal food meal.”

And that’s when they developed their signature “chicken and gyro over rice” platter, and their white and red sauces.

25 years later, The Halal Guys has grown into a franchise with numerous locations around the country and the world.

And now, they’re opening a restaurant less than five miles away from Cook/Douglass.

They announced the plan to open the New Jersey location on their Facebook page in November, but are yet to set an opening date.

Don’t they understand we’re hungry now?!
