Purdue students and device featured on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon

‘I want to go to the next keg party at Purdue University’ —Jimmy Fallon

As if Purdue wasn’t already the greatest school of all time, let’s tack one more reason to that list

Not only have we broken barriers between man and space but now we have hit prime-time tv — or at least our technology has.

A device created by Mark French, mechanical engineering technology professor, was demonstrated on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon this past Tuesday, March 3rd.

The contraption shoots pingpong balls at 920 miles per hour by sucking all of the air out of a PVC pipe, and then releasing a valve that lets air into the tube, causing the ball to be pushed out the other side without the hinderance of air resistance.

The Tonight Show called him last week asking for two of the devices for the show, French told The Lafayette Journal Courier.

His two Ph.D. students Craig Zehrung and Jimmy Stratton who built the actual model were at the show representing The ‘Due.

You can also find this device featured on the Discovery Channel, MythBusters and BBC.
