Princeton Men’s Lacrosse Coach Chris Bates has been fired by the university following an incident during a game against Brown.

Bates was put on leave immediately after he elbowed a Brown lacrosse player during last weekend’s game, seen here on video:

He was in his seventh season with the Tigers and led them to three Ivy League Championships.

Offensive Coordinator Matt Madalon, who served as the interim head coach while Bates was on leave, will serve as head coach until the season ends.

The university will conduct a national search for a new head coach at the end of the season.

In a gesture of solidarity, the team have changed their profile pictures on Facebook to the Princeton Lacrosse logo.

Stay tuned for updates.
