Homecoming preview: Is the Princeton-Yale rivalry dead?

‘They think of Princeton like we think of Penn’

With the Homecoming game against Yale this weekend, tensions are running high. We decided to roam Late Meal and ask students about whether they thought a rivalry between Yale and Princeton actually exists.

Things got pretty heated pretty quick. Shots fired.

Alex, Freshman, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering

“It’s not really a rivalry if it’s one sided.”

Sam, Freshman, Econ/Premed/Philosophy/Religion/Neuroscience/ORFE/Slavic Languages and Literature with a Minor in Men’s and Women’s Studies

“On the topic of the Princeton-Yale so-called ‘rivalry’, the simple fact that Princeton has had one of the most successful Halloweens in Halloween history whereas Yale can’t even decide what costume to put on just goes to show that there is no rivalry. That’s all I have to say.”

Zoë, Freshman, Undecided

“I feel like it’s sort of Harvard and Princeton versus Yale.”

Hansul, Freshman, ORFE

“Is it a rivalry if one of them always wins?”

Pelumildimayl, Freshman, Chemical and Biological Engineering

“It’s imaginary.”

Sarah, Sophomore, Chemical and Biological Engineering

“I feel like we hiss aggressively at them, but we don’t really hate them.”

Karen, Sophomore, Computer Science

“No.”

Brandon and Jeff, Sophomores, Psychology and Computer Science

“I don’t think there is, the rivalry is really between Yale and Harvard. They think of Princeton like we think of Penn.”

Nicole, Sophomore, Geoscience

“Yeah I think so. Well, we’re better.”

Ariana, Sophomore, Undecided

“I feel like there isn’t a rivalry between Yale and Princeton. I feel like it’s between Yale and Harvard.”
