Pitt student dies from falling off a roof near campus
Police ruled it an accident
Colin Montesano, a 21-year-old Pitt student, died Friday night after falling 20 feet from a roof on Meyran Ave.
Pitt released the following statement: “The University community is saddened by the death of our student, Colin Montesano. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and all who knew him.”
Gianna Fonzi, a resident in the neighboring building who called 911, said that students had been partying throughout the day before finals week. It is unknown if alcohol was involved.
Montesano fell into an alley between two buildings around 8:45 pm. He was taken to UPMC Presbyterian and was pronounced dead an hour later.
There is currently a memorial with flowers on the steps leading to the alley where the accident happened.
