Blind victim of 9/11 attacks is speaking at Pitt

It’s been 15 years since the attacks, but he still remembers them vividly

Michael Hingson, blind since birth, was with his guide dog, Roselle, on the 78th floor of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. He was there for the attacks. He may not have seen anything, but the magnitude of what he felt is unmatched. Hingson wrote about his account of the attacks in his New York Times best-selling book, Thunderdog: The True Story of a Blind Man, His Guide Dog, and the Triumph of Trust at Ground Zero.

Hingson recalls the sounds of falling debris and screams of others on the 78th floor. He and his guide dog were caught in the middle of the madness.

The presentation is a part of Pitt’s “Year of Diversity”, with this specific event highlighting the struggles of those with disabilities.

You can hear his story on Thursday, September 15th at 7pm in the Frick Fine Arts Auditorium. A dessert reception will follow the presentation.
