Everything you need to know about Pitt’s sororities

If you plan on rushing, we have got you covered

There was a ‘Meet the Greek’ event in the William Pitt Union on Tuesday to find out more about the sororities here at Pitt. You may be surprised at how many chapters there are and how they all differ- ranging from social to multicultural to academic focuses. Some even have a bit of everything. Here is the lowdown on some of the sororities that were at the event.

Delta Delta Delta

I spoke with a representative of Tri Delt who says that they are a social and philanthropy based sorority with close-knit friendships. Their animal is the dolphin, and they have won the Greek week competition 27 years in a row. As a philanthropic sorority, they take volunteering and charity seriously and have been specifically involved with St. Jude’s children’s hospital. Tri Delt will be open for rushing in the spring semester.

Sigma Sigma Sigma

Tri Sig is a social and philanthropic sorority as well, serving children through raising money for therapy rooms in the hospital. Tri Sig values integrity, friendship, and responsibility–to name a few. They’re very accommodating to busy schedules and allow various levels of involvement, so if you’re busy, you can still be a part of their sisterhood. Every year Tri Sig hosts an all you can eat pizza event and a basketball tournament. If you’re interested in rushing, you will have to wait until the spring semester to do so.

Alpha Delta Pi

ADPi is a sorority that is focused on leadership and philanthropy. In 1851 ADPi was founded, and in 1920 ADPi was founded at Pitt. Some of their events include the Run for Ronald 5k which is in October and the King of Wing eating competition. They value academics, sisterhood, and sociability. ADPi at Pitt is heavily involved with the Ronald McDonald house and benefiting the children. “We live for each other” is their motto. To get involved with ADPi, you can rush in the spring semester.

Zeta Sigma Chi

ΖΣΧ is a sorority that focuses on culture and the integration of it in our society. They aspire to “create true, lifelong friendships among women of diverse heritages while upholding the values of their eight founding members.” ΖΣΧ was founded in 2007 at Pitt and their members have had the highest GPA overall among the sororities. They represent 79 ethnicities and 34 nationalities. Zeta Sigma Chi invites all women to check out their sorority! Fortunately for interested students, you can rush this semester.

To rush, you must have at least 12 credits completed at the University (so freshmen will not be able to rush this semester) and have at least a 2.5 GPA. Sororities are a great way to meet people with similar values and ideas as you. The vibe at the event seemed intensely positive with current members excited about recruiting new ones. I highly recommend checking out greek life and find a sorority that is right for you.

Hail to Pitt!
