Liberty Bridge in Pittsburgh has caught fire

You may want to avoid leaving Oakland

One of Pittsburgh’s 446 bridges was shut down today indefinitely due to construction materials catching on fire creating potential structural damages. The Liberty Bridge connects downtown to the South Hills neighborhoods and this unforeseen problem has created traffic affecting Pitt students everywhere.

Sarah Wachter, a senior working downtown, witnessed the bridge on fire from her building before making her traffic-filled hour long trip home.  Another Pitt student, Emily, was on the bus coming back to Oakland from downtown.  It also doubled her usual half-hour trip to an hour, where apparently everybody on the bus was getting pretty irritated.  Long story short, if you don’t want to sit in traffic, it is probably safe not to leave Oakland.

The bridge will definitely be closed all weekend, maybe even longer.
