What’s the deal with these sites that claim celebs are moving to small towns?

Viral articles have been circulating Facebook that state that “X celebrity is leaving LA and moving to X city in the U.S.” We’re sorry to tell you but no, Johnny Depp is not moving to Pittsburgh to “live in a place full of real, genuine people,” despite the fact that we are genuine and it would be awesome.
In fact, The McKenzie Post is a purposeful fake news site. As stated on their website under “About Us” it reads, “The McKenzie Post is the premiere fantasy news site in the world! All news articles on mckenziepost.com are satire or pure fantasy.” People can submit “local news stories” by emailing [email protected].
Daily News 11 is another website like this one and has also posted stories about celebrities relocation (namely the one about Mr. Depp moving to our town).
