Finals stress relief: Doggy style

Playing with fluffy dogs is the ultimate way to get rid of the finals week stress

Who doesn’t love petting a furry little friend when feeling stressed out? With the inevitable final exam week quickly approaching, we students need to have a safe, healthy stress reliever to stay sane.

This Saturday at 3pm in Hillman the dogs will be ready for you to come play! Honestly, what is a better way to de-stress than to cuddle and pet cute dogs?

If you did not already know, the University of Pittsburgh has a fantastic program where trained therapy dogs come to the Cathedral for playtime with anxious college students, and anyone who will give them a tummy rub. The dogs look forward to every Tuesday where they (and we) get to experience a full hour of fun. From 7-8pm on Tuesdays during the fall and spring semesters, therapy dogs of all shapes and sizes sprint through the front door of Cathy with overwhelming excitement. And just like the dogs, I do too.

Here are the profiles of some superstar dogs:

Maui aka the ‘Queen’

Maui is a 10 year-old rescue who has been coming to help de-stress students since she was merely one year old! She loves tummy rubs and does what she wants – give attention and to relax.

Della

This gorgeous pup is a three-year-old German Shepard mix that loves to eat everything that has spaghetti sauce. She was unfortunately going to be euthanized, but thankfully her owner saved her. Della is full of love and sometimes, well, spaghetti sauce.

Gunner

This mini model is a 12 year-old Shih-Tzu who lives for attention. When you say, “look” he poses and expects his picture to be taken. He has been featured at the Hillman Cancer Center and loves to be loved.

Boaz

This mini golden doodle is the most excited dog of all! She is thrilled when people pet her. She’s two and a half years old and was born on Thanksgiving. Her passions include coming to Pitt, cuddling, and fetching. How cute!

Callie

A sophomore at the University of Pittsburgh, Callie is a German Shepard, Doberman, and Coonhound mix. Her beauty radiates when she smiles at you. She is only five and a half years old but has been a therapy dog for Pitt for now two years. Her favorite activity is to be with the students and also eat peanut butter. I can’t blame her.

Ajax

Ajax is a three-year-old Bernese mountain dog who will eat anything. He is an adorable dog that has “fabulous eyebrows”. Though he is 110 lbs, he does indeed think that he is a lap dog. His brother is a pug who loves to use him as a pillow. Aww!

Come to Hillman library, if you already will not be there, and relax with these adorable and loving beauties.

…Seriously, they love attention. Go – you won’t regret it!
