The Fight for $15 rally has made its way to Oakland

Hundreds are gathering in Oakland to raise the minimum wage to $15

About an hour ago, a group of hundreds of college students, middle aged and veteran workers gathered to continue the “Fight for $15” to increase the minimum wage to $15. The group had been rallying on Bigelow Boulevard starting at 3:30pm but moved to Forbes Avenue.

The group blocked the entire block between Oakland Avenue and Atwood Street on Forbes Avenue, and police blocked the two blocks on either side.

The group had various speakers, one who had gotten her union’s workers the increased wage and was here to help, and another woman who explained that she’s worked her entire life for under $12/hr trying to put food on the table for her family.

After a short while, the protesters were told that they needed to move and proceeded to head to Bigelow Boulevard, where they had previously been protesting. A video of both the march and the rally can be found on our Facebook page here.
