Easy tips to cleanse your Spring wardrobe

Because you know you need to

Alright ladies, April is upon us and warmer weather is in your future. It’s time to buckle down and start your spring cleaning – but we aren’t talking about your apartment. Those shorts and tanks collecting dust in the bottom of your drawers? Yeah, I’m talking about that one pair that seems to have shrunk from one too many trips to Starbucks this Winter, they’re in need of a little TLC.

It’s time to shed your layers in exchange for something a bit lighter this Spring. But with all of the bloggers, celebrities, and runway shows (and did I mention limited college budget?), exactly what “on-trend” means can get a bit confusing.

But do not despair fellow fashionistas. I’ve come up with a list of five need-to-know trends for this spring that will keep you stylish and comfortable.

Off-the-shoulder pieces

Whether it be a crisp, white crop top or a flowy maxi, off-the-shoulder anythings are back and better than ever. This light-as-air silhouette can easily transition you from city to beach chic. Able to be paired with almost anything, these pieces can also help transition your high-waisted flares, which you thought were only good for Fall, seamlessly into Spring. Not to mention, your straps will be one less weight on your shoulders.

Street-worthy sleepwear

I have a feeling that this one won’t take a lot of convincing. We aren’t talking about your Hello Kitty themed nighty that you’ve been hoarding since middle school. But silk pajama and lace lingerie inspired daywear is having its moment this Spring. Ranging from slip dresses, to silky pajama-inspired blouses, and even slipper-inspired footwear, PJs are all the rage. Anything that makes those midday naps easier – I’m in.

Statement Sneakers

Athleisure fashion continues to hold strong as we transition into this spring. The sneaker fever, heightened by celebs including Kylie and Kendall Jenner and Rihanna, continues to plague fashion gurus across the globe. But who’s complaining really? Sneakers, whether they be your classic Chucks or funky platform creepers, keep you comfortable and effortlessly chic.

Leggings as pants

Finally, FINALLY, our leggings may be accepted as actual pants (but let’s be honest, we haven’t let the opinions of others stop us on this one before). Of course, this is not to say that ALL leggings are acceptable, because quite frankly, nobody wants to see your underwear through your leggings.

And as always, there are still those that argue that this will never be appropriate. But with designers like 3.1 Phillip Lim and Armani showing these on the runway, how can one argue? You decide, but I think you already know where we stand. Try taking your leggings to the next level by investing in a pair with cutout details or a bold spring pattern.

Bold Accessories

Although minimalist accessories have had their time this past year, it’s time to give your accessories a much needed Spring makeover. Bold colors and textures incorporated into your purses, jewelry, and other daytime accessories can add drama and excitement to any outfit. It can be as simple as swapping out your solid scarf for a bold gingham or striped one. One-step changes can give you a pop and elevate your style to the next level.

Taking inspiration from just these five tips, and incorporating just one of these trends into your everyday wardrobe can prepare you for the Spring season ahead.

Because seriously, when you look better, you feel better. Stay stylish, my friends.
