State College hero rescues dog hit on I-80

This guy stepped up for man’s best friend when nobody else would

James Matthews, of State College, saw an injured dog along Interstate 80 in Snow Shoe, Pennsylvania and stopped to save the canine.

The dog, a pointer mix named Patrick for being rescued on St. Patrick’s Day, was suffering from a broken femur and jaw and was subsequently taken to Metzger Animal Hospital for surgery by a state trooper.

Matthews mentioned that Patrick could barely move, was bleeding from the mouth and had trouble breathing by the time the state trooper took him.

After no one came forward claiming Patrick as their own, despite social media attempts by Pet Recovery and Centre County PAWS, Matthews plans to adopt him.

“I think he’d give Patrick a great home,” Centre County PAWS Director of Operations Lisa Bahr said. “I think it’s fortuitous that he could stop, knew what to do, and was calling the hospital to see how Patrick was doing. I think it’s a match”

“I don’t know if he remembers me from that day, but he’s OK with me,” Matthews said. “He seems a little unsure of his new surroundings, but he’s also following me everywhere, wagging his tail, and eating. He’s doing good.”

Let the ugly crying commence.
