The five types of Uber drivers in State College

The highs and lows of when you just don’t feel like walking

On a campus where you can walk just about everywhere, taxi services aren’t always the most popular option. But when it’s just too far or more likely too cold, an Uber can be pretty darn convenient.

When ordering an Uber in State College, the driver who will get you to your destination is sometimes quite unexpected, to say the least.

Here are the five types of Uber drivers you will encounter in State College.

The talkative one

If you think you’ll get into your Uber and have time to relax, you’re wrong. The talkative type of driver is determined to get to know you. Language barrier? Who cares, he’ll keep trying. He’ll ask about your major, what year are you and even where are you from.

Driver: What’s your name?
Me: Inès
Driver: Inès from Argentina?
Me: Nope..

The party guy

Trust me, you will not want to leave his car, not even to go to your party. You get in his car and he’s already playing loud house music, getting you pumped up and asking about your plans for the night. He even let you play your own music.

And for that I’ll give you five stars, Dauren.

The GPS denier

Driver: Where are you headed to?
Me: Oh I already put the address in.
Driver: Can you tell me how to get there?

Why use the Uber application which tells you every step to make your life easier when you can get lost and decide not to look at it right? Well sometimes I wish my driver would use that app, it would save us a LOT of time (and probably save me some money and selfies taken, thank you).

The one who remembers you

Fortunately or unfortunately, in a town like State College you will probably get the same Uber driver twice. Unfortunately, if you embarrassed yourself the week before or fortunately if you behaved, but trust me there will be more unfortunate times. At least it was for me.

How nice, we meet again. And yes that second ride was very out of the way…

Patient Uber driver

After a great Thursday night out you decide to order an Uber because you had too many drinks and you’d rather be safe. You and your friends get into the Uber and quite frankly you’ll thank your friend the morning after for staying with you. Without them I can guarantee you, you’ll embarrass yourself.(I mean even with them, but less)

You: Turn right here!!!
Driver: (quiet)
Friend: Trust me he knows where he’s heading.
You: I don’t trust anyone anymore!

The one who thinks he’s driving a celebrity around town

Neon blue lights, candy, water bottles, lounge music and dark windows: the works! Thank you for making me feel like Beyoncé.

If you guys get Ed, you’ll feel special.

Uber is not necessarily worth spending money in State College since everything is within walking distance, but it is a fast way to get you anywhere in town.

At the end of the day, it is really up to you and your budget. However, remember it could be worth spending $6 at night instead of putting yourself at risks or having to trudge all the way to Fratland or the bars in heels.
