Penn’s craziest Uber memories

What happens in the Uber stays in the Uber

Whether it’s an Uber ride back from the Thursday night down town or the drive across campus because you were too lazy to walk from 34th to 40th, Penn students are constantly setting their locations for pick up.

I recently had a bizarre Uber experience on the Thursday before Halloween. I decided on being a vampire for the downtown at Rumor that evening but didn’t have the teeth to pull off the costume. I looked up costume stores in Philly and the only one that had the teeth for sale was over on 3rd Street. I really didn’t have time to run all the way down there so I set my pick up location on my Uber app for the store and my drop off location for the Lower Quad Gate.

When the driver got there he called me and asked where I was. I replied, “Okay so I’m actually not there but what I need you to do is park your car, go into Pierre’s Costumes, and buy me the shorter length vampire teeth for $26.99 and then drive them to me here in University City. I’ll tip you ten extra bucks in cash on top of paying you for the drive and the teeth as well.”

Long story short, he was kinda weirded out by the whole thing but he went through with it and brought me the teeth. It was pretty sweet.

Nailed it. Thanks Uber

Knowing there would be some other hilarious stories students had to tell from their experiences, I ventured out onto Locust to talk with some students about their craziest and funniest Uber moments.

Ha Tran

“I had this guy who was driving me in Center City who stopped the car and took pictures of this wedding in the middle of an intersection. People were honking at us and I was so weirded out. I felt bad because as a decent Asian driver myself I thought he represented other Asians shittily.”

Daniel Fradin

“My friend and I were going to a party and his ‘bottle of Sprite’ exploded all over the Uber driver so he pulled over and kicked us out. He thought we were the most obnoxious teenagers ever. I mean at the same time we didn’t do it on purpose. It’s just like something that happens with physics right?”

Ana Geoana

“We took an Uber to New York City because it was just as cheap as the train. Somewhere along the way, the driver took the wrong exit so it wound up taking us 6 hours to get to New York and there was a $500 Uber charge on my moms card. She gave an uber amount of shit for it.”

Abby McGuckin

“We were going to Rittenhouse and we saw a completely naked guy riding a bicycle so we started taking photos and Snapchats. But like then it was not just one naked biker there were dozens of naked bikers. We were kinda freaking out but the driver thought it was no big deal. He said ‘This is an annual thing.’”

Alex Johnson

“One time I threw up in an Uber so they charged me an extra $200 but I appealed and said it was female problems so they took away the charge. Girl power.”
