The 10 Commandments of Oregon Football

Is it game day yet?

Saturday mornings during fall term at the University of Oregon mean waking up on game day with total, unadulterated excitement.

It’s football season and you know what that means: Eugene’s streets packed with Duck fans wearing yellow and green, tailgating, traffic on the way to Autzen Stadium, 8 am pre games, and preaching the sport of football.

Are you a true Duck fan? If so, you must follow the 10 commandments of Oregon football.

Thou must know every word to “Shout”

The movie “Animal House”, filmed on campus at UO, is famous for its scene of the toga party where everyone is partying to the song “Shout”.

It’s a tradition to bust out this song after 3rd quarter every single game. UO student’s favorite memories from college will definitely include the entire student section singing this song to each other plus dropping low and jumping high all as one.

“A little bit louder now…”

Thou must bring layers or a poncho

Although “It never rains in Autzen Stadium” it actually does get a little wet and windy. Be sure to bring a rain coat or a big yellow poncho cause Eugene’s weather is unpredictable.

Thou shall wear Duck gear

It doesn’t matter if you’re the kind of fan who just wears a green shirt to match the theme or if you’re a fan who goes all out in tutus and face paint.

Just make sure you’ve got your Duck gear on.

Thou shall never miss kickoff

Kickoff is the perfect time to get ready to stand up and cheer for four hours. This is the moment where everyone gets pumped as we see all our favorite athletes run across the field following the mascot Puddles on his motorcycle.

Celebrating Kickoff the only way we know how to: cheers with champagne

Thou must get a picture with Puddles

Are you really an Oregon Duck if you don’t have a picture with Puddles on your Facebook?

UO students love running into Puddles on campus, high-fiving him at games, and snapping a quick picture to show their school spirit.

Thou must learn the fight song and chant it out for every touchdown

We have a tradition at Autzen stadium: scream the fight song every time we get a touchdown.

It’s important that you at least know the beat and the hand signals for when everyone cheers and the band begins to play “Mighty Oregon”.

“Go Ducks Go! Fight Ducks Fight! Go! Fight! Win Ducks Win!”

Thou must perfect throwing up the “O”

“Throw up your O” is a common slogan you will see on T-shirts and signs throughout campus. Us Oregon Ducks cherish this hand signal and perfecting your “O” means creating more school spirit.

Throwing up the “O” everywhere I go

Thou shall make it on the Smile Cam at least once in your college career

It’s always a good time when you spot yourself on the Smile Cam.

At least once during college you must get to the front of the student section and get the camera man’s attention. Show your love for the Ducks!

Thou shall sing your heart out to “Coming Home” by Mat Kearney

Another song all Duck fans know. This adorable video that plays at every game shows the many celebrated years of football at UO featuring the best plays of all time, the unconditional love of the fans, and beautiful scenery in Oregon.

This shows just how much the University of Oregon makes an impact on each and every student.

“I left my heart in Oregon…”

Thou may never love another athlete as much as you love Marcus Mariota

One of the best things about UO is how much we love and appreciate our football players. Mariota, probably the most adored quarterback we’ve ever had, continues to prove the greatness of Oregon’s fanbase.

Mariota, with his spot on the Tennesse Titans and his Heisman Trophy, shows just how awesome Ducks football is.

What do Oregon ducks have in common? Their love for Football season.

Four years at the University of Oregon mean developing deep love for the sport of Football, Marcus Mariota and Puddles.
