‘There was a lack of marijuana’: Everything you missed at Hamstock festival

The weekend of Hamstock drew a UO residence to enjoy food, art and music as part of a unique community experience

What do the residents of U of O get up to on a weekend?

Last weekend, residents headed for the second annual Hamstock festival put on by the members of the Hamilton Hall government on campus.

Taking place on the lush Humpy Lumpy lawn, festival-goers were invited to chill, eat and listen to the on-site bands.

One resident who helped plan the event, Taryn Lacey, said: “It took about 5 weeks to prepare everything.”

But the preparation was worthwhile. At the event, there was face paint, henna tattoo, tie-dying, free food and live music.

The atmosphere was fun and lively with food provided by UO catering.  Everyone was able to embrace their artistic side with painting and tie-dye too!

The event featured local artists such as: Pluto the Planet, Spiller, Dez Anthony, the UO Hip Hop Ensemble and the Nouns. Residents experienced the sounds of indie rock, house music, jazz and hip hop.

In conclusion, it was a celebration arts and music that really brought the community together.

Taryn said: “It’s a great way for all the residents to come together as a community rather than always being in our dorms!”

This festival highlights the power residents have to create an impact within their community. It was through residents living on the U of O campus made it all possible.

Through the event, many new smiles arose and residents from every dorm were able to participate in this unique experience.

The general consensus of the residents I interviewed was, “It was lit!”

Though there was a lack of marijuana, everyone seemed to enjoy the carefree and friendly atmosphere of Hamstock.

Hopefully this annual event will continue and the residents will once again be able to participate in the wonderful Hamstock experience.
