Police search for armed suspect involved in off campus shooting

Neither of the victims were Ohio State students

The suspect is a 6ft tall black male with dreads, glasses, and is believed to be armed.

Police have confirmed that none of the victims were Ohio State students.

The suspect was seen at 20th and Summit under Iuka bridge at around 3:05pm.

The shooting is being called a home invasion.

At 3pm OSU Police released a Public Safety Notice about today’s incident. They responded to a report about an off campus home invasion at 70 West  Northwood Avenue at 1:10pm.

“Until it was determined there was no immediate danger, a shelter in place directive was issued for the Ohio State campus while Columbus Police and The Ohio State University Police actively searched for the suspect. However, this directive has been lifted as Columbus Police actively investigate. As always, if you see something suspicious, say something immediately: call University Police at 614-292-2121 or Columbus Police at 614-645-4545. Always call 9-1-1 in emergencies.”

Two people have been injured so far according to medics with one of them being transported to the OSU Wexner Medical Center in critical condition.

Columbus police have confirmed that both victims are in critical condition.

OSU sent out an initial alert about the incident which occurred on West Northwood Ave at 1:24pm.

Officials have confirmed the incident occurred at 70 W Northwood Ave.

At 2pm someone called the police alerting them of shots being fired by the railroad tracks. The police have confirmed it was the suspect who has a shotgun.

Eyewitnesses say they see and hear helicopters circling the area.

Kaitlyn Bankey, an Ohio State senior who lives near the scene on Summit and Alden told The Tab she has “never been so close to something so real.”

At 2:15pm OSU send out a Buckeye Alert saying the shelter in place has been lifted but urging students to continue to be cautious.

As of now the suspect is still at large.

Officials urge students to “Shelter in place, be observant, and take action as needed.”
