UMich’s Uber harasser’s father accused of 20 felonies

Like father, like son

Remember Jake Croman, the University of Michigan student who was the talk of the town when he called an Uber driver a “minimum wage faggot”?

Well, if not, here’s the video that made headlines in March that caught him in the act:

At the time it was pointed out that Croman’s father is a well known New York landlord.

Now said father, Steven Croman, has been charged with 20 felonies and faces up to 25 years in prison. The charges include criminal tax fraud and grand larceny, all relating to his real-estate business. The New York state attorney general’s office is currently attempting to force Croman to pay the millions of dollars he allegedly obtained by inflating his rental income, 45 million dollars to be exact, back in restitution to tenants and penalties through a lawsuit.

Croman’s methods allegedly involved offering rent-controlled tenants cheap buyouts in order to push them out of his company’s Manhattan apartment buildings. When buyouts did not work, Croman would make their buildings too dangerous to live in, by refusing to repair or provide necessities such as hot water, heat, and electricity.

The best part? Croman’s tenants created an alliance against him, publishing their own website warning others of Croman’s criminal activity. This ‘hate’ website sounds very similar to website created against UofM’s very own, Jake Croman.
