Why you should ALWAYS choose MSU over U of M

There’s never a reason to second guess this decision

With the football team in a time of struggle – and the MSU vs. U of M game finally here – or with you taking constant L’s in your classes, it’s easy to feel a little less into the Spartan spirit than usual. College has its tough days, and its tough games, but make sure you never forget why you chose to join the Spartan nation.

Colors

Green and white are classic, and everybody looks good decked out in the Spartan gear.

Compare this to maize and blue – is it even a question? No, it’s green and white. Every time.

Campus

Check out that campus. With Michigan State initially being an agricultural college, the amount of greenery is far more evident than at, let’s say, U of M.There’s just something about sitting in the grass by the Red Cedar trying to do homework, but naturally getting sidetracked by the sight of the river in front of you, surrounded by giant trees slowly turning to the colors of fall. The only sounds around you are the excessive amount of campus squirrels munching and people flipping through the pages in their textbooks or snoozing in the shade.

The scenery of Michigan State’s campus is something that simply can’t be beat.

Mascots

Now let’s compare mascots. Sparty is iconic.

Google “Sparty” and see what comes up, then Google “Wolverine.” Just isn’t the same effect, is it? Everybody knows Sparty. We all love our mascot, and I don’t really hear of that same kind of praise for “the wolverine” coming from the stands at the University of Michigan games.

Having a strong mascot that gets you hyped up even when your team isn’t doing so hot is important, and we have that here at Michigan State.

Oregon on the clock.

Basketball

Wanna talk basketball? That’s easy. Izzo has been dubbed one of college basketball’s greatest active coaches, and it shows.

Just comparing the 2015-2016 Big Ten Standings, Michigan State led with 29 wins and 5 losses – compared to Michigan’s 22 wins to 12 losses.

…And just wait until this year.

Tom Izzo has won 12 Big Ten titles – seven regular-season championships and five tournament crowns. #16HoopClass #IzzoWeek #IzzoHOF

Game Day

The Spartan nation on game days. It’s a feeling like no other. Everyone comes together and we’re all a big, hyped up family – and remain that way, win or lose.

Whether it’s the tailgate before the game, the cheers in the stands or the harmony of watching the game at home with your best friends, everyone feels connected to the football team and to each other on game days. It’s the best feeling.

Now I can’t speak for the city of Ann Arbor, but I do know that nobody does it like East Lansing on game day.

Watch us stripe the stadium… you’ll see.I hope we’ve clarified one thing: there is no place like East Lansing. Being a Spartan is a feeling that cannot be beaten, not by the Wolverines, not by anyone. So when you have a rough day, accidentally sleep through a class, spill your fresh Sparty coffee on your notes (it happens), or, god forbid, the football team loses again, don’t forget why being a Spartan is the best thing you can be. Go green! Go white!
