Police confirm MSU clown sighting was a hoax

The student who sent out the original tweet was also found

MSU police have confirmed that the clown sighting was all a ‘joke.’

On Tuesday night a photoshopped picture of a clown holding balloons outside of Wilson Hall was released on Twitter. Moments after the picture was released, MSU students all over campus caught wind and were sent into a frenzy. Some students stuck to social media, while others decided to take more drastic measures and partake in “clown hunting.”

Today, MSU Police Captain, Doug Monet, confirmed that the picture was indeed photoshopped. The police department received calls regarding the clown and dispatched officers to investigate the situation. They were led to a suspect that explained he had released the picture on Twitter as a joke.

Captain Monet also said that dressing as a clown is not illegal; but, as always, if anyone should see suspicious activity or feel unsafe they are to call the MSU police immediately.
