Tom Izzo inducted into Naismith Hall of Fame

The man, the myth, the legend

On Thursday, September 8th, Tom Izzo was inducted into the Naismith Hall of Fame. While he has always been regarded as one of the best coaches in Michigan State history, it is an honor for him to be nationally recognized as member of this inductee class with big names such as Shaquillle O’Neal and Allen Iverson.

Izzo has led the Spartans to 524 total wins, 246 Big Ten victories, and seven Final Four appearances, one of which resulted in the national title coming home to East Lansing. To round off Izzo’s HoF credentials, in 2010 he was even offered a coaching job with the Cavaliers, which he turned down to maintain his position at Michigan State.

During the induction ceremony, along with his family, Izzo had support from many current and former Spartans – including longtime friend Mark Dantonio and former players Draymond Green and Steve Smith.

It will be exciting to see how our new Hall of Famer develops this year’s Spartan basketball team when the season tips off on November 11th vs. Arizona.
