MSU is the best school in the world, here’s why

We are Sparta: A quick review of what makes us love MSU

When people hear you go to Michigan State, a wide eyed expression and “Oh, that is an excellent school” is usually the response that follows. But what is it about MSU that elicits such a strong response? Yea, we know we’re the best school ever, but why?

To find out, I asked students around campus to see what makes Michigan State pretty much the greatest university in the world.

Parker Wiese, Senior, Advertising

“The thing I love most about Michigan State University is the athletics. I know that isn’t a very original answer by any means, but I love the sports and what it does for our students and community. Sporting events bring us all together in so many ways. It creates a sense of family with classmates and alumni when we all come together on game day to fill the stands or gather around a TV to watch. School pride is important to me and I am very proud to be a Spartan. Spartan Athletics give us as students something to look forward to amidst the daily stresses and work that comes along with being a college student.”

Hannah King, Freshman, Elementary Education with Math Preference

“So far the thing I love most about MSU is  the community, the pride of being a Spartan, which is strongest when supporting our sports teams and the education we are receiving here.”

Nick Martine, Senior, Media and Information

“I love that MSU helps me feel secure in my future. I know that by coming here, I made a solid choice and took the first step to building the foundation of my future. MSU is super respected in the “real world,” and it is nice to know that you have that platform when you go to look for jobs, and that it makes companies pay attention to you when you put yourself out there. MSU really helps build a certain confidence in that respect.”

Darcy Shank, Freshman, No Preference

“What I love most about MSU is the Spartan atmosphere. The school pride here is amazing and being able to say I am a Spartan every day is the best feeling.”

Nolan Murphy, Material Science Engineering, Sophomore

Going to the football games is what I love most about MSU. I really appreciate having die hard MSU fans as family because they always come to tailgate and bring so much food. However, being in the student section for a big game, yelling with thousands of other students, is what I love most about MSU.”

Libby Collins, Freshman, Human Biology with Pre-med Track

“I love State because I love the atmosphere here. We have a lot of spirit and everyone who goes here is passionate about it. Also the networking is awesome. No matter where you go in the entire world you’ll find someone who went to MSU or likes MSU is there. My uncle travels the world and he says in Europe no matter what airport he’s at if he’s wearing MSU they yell “Go green” or something. And I’ve been to California and other places and the same thing happens. It’s just a universal lifelong thing to be a spartan which I think is super cool. Also there are so many opportunities any group or academic thing I could want to do state has. So I feel like I have options to do whatever I like.”

Katie Schrauben, Sophomore, Creative Advertising

“I really like how it has a kind of big city feel even though it really isn’t, and all of the people I have met living in this community. I really love the spirit of the school too- the passion to do good and the determination of the students and teachers. I like being around and a part of such a motivated atmosphere.”

Nathan Sosa, Senior, History

“I came here because the campus is beautiful and the surrounding town is great. Also, MSU has the best teaching program in the state and maybe even the country.”

Megan Martine, Freshman, Media and Information

“I like that it is a big campus that has a lot of diversity. The diversity really gives everyone the opportunity to open up and find new versions of themselves. It allows students to branch out to meet different kinds of people and make connections they would not normally have. I also love how the big campus and diversity helps prepare for future situations where this experience is necessary.”
