BREAKING: The University of Maryland bans bikes on campus

The ban will take action on Monday, April 4th

The University of Maryland has just prohibited the use of bikes on campus. This is due to the multitude of injuries that has occurred on campus due to riding bikes. The ban will take action on Monday, April 4th.

Within the month of March, campus legislators have gathered together to discuss what should be done about the amount of injuries on campus. This ranges from cuts to broken bones and much more.

UMD officials have announced on social media that they are very proud of this new legislation earlier today.

One student a few months ago fell into a coma due to riding on her bike. She crashed into the side of McKeldin and she was knocked unconscious just a few moments later. Officials at UMD thought that without bikes, there would be fewer phone calls from the hospital on the condition of these students.

“I would be happy if UMD banned bikes because then I wouldn’t be scared of being run over every time I heard a bike coming near or behind me,” said sophomore Alana Sadur.

Junior Nicole Lach also shared her positive sentiments. “I’d be relieved because now I won’t feel like a biker is going to take me out on the Stamp hill sidewalk,” she noted.

Students at UMD seem to be very afraid of being hurt by a bike – from riding or getting hit.

On Facebook, leaders at UMD said “We are very pleased to announce that all bicycles on campus will be prohibited. Although this may be a strain to those who bike to class, the new rule will make our campus a very safe place to be.”

While it may take longer to venture to classes now, students will be able to enjoy all of the activities that they are involved with on campus rather than the hospital. Although walking will be solely the only way to make it to your classes now, you should be pleased at the thought of the extra exercise you will be obtaining during your walks.

“Thank God they finally banned bikes,” said sophomore Jack Payne. “You know what they say, walkers hate drivers and drivers hate walkers but everyone hates the bikers.”

With this new provision, however, we will not only be enrolled in a safer campus, but a campus with positive relationships between all of the students.
