Maryland player makes list of Top Ten MVPs in NCAA Sweet 16

Melo Trimble, of course

Melo Trimble has earned a spot on USA Today’s list of the Top Ten Most Valuable Players in the NCAA Sweet 16, a feat that comes as no surprise to the members of Terp Nation.

Although Trimble’s shooting record has taken a bit of a blow recently, he still managed to lead the Terps to a 70-63 victory over Hawaii last Sunday, thus securing the team a spot in the Sweet 16 tournament for the first time in 13 years and delighting Terrapin fans everywhere.

Despite the team’s meager one point lead over Hawaii at halftime, they were able to get back into the swing of things after Trimble’s three point shot in the second half. In the postgame press conference, Trimble explained “When I made that three, it felt great. That’s just me staying confident, staying in the game and having that next play mentality.”

Teammate Rasheed Sulaimon added to that by saying “Once that shot went down, I think that just got everyone loose and gave everyone confidence that if we just continue to play defense, make our free throws and not turn the ball over, we can win the game.”

Melo Trimble practically exhales confidence on and off the court, and it is clear that his teammates have a lot of faith in him. Now all that we can do as Terp Nation is share that same faith in him and hope that he continues to work hard and stay humble as the Terps take on the top seeded Kansas Jayhawks on Thursday.
