I’m an optimist in a pessimistic world

Don’t let anyone tell you you can’t do something

All my life I have sought adventures, taken risks, and dreamed big but all my life I’ve been shot down.

Since a young age, I’ve always been told there are going to be people in your life who will tell you that you can’t do something or people that will try to tear you down, but I never truly understood what that meant until now.

After 20 years, I’ve couldn’t even begin to tell you how many times I’ve been told “you can’t do that” or “no,” and only recently have I realized what a shitty feeling this is. Day in and day out there are going to be people who are hoping to see you fail and fall flat on your face.

For a girl who only wants to find success and happiness in this world, it’s so discouraging when people don’t support you or your dreams. And of course it’s so easy to tell someone not to be influenced by the haters, but at the end of the day they’re going to get to you.

In a society where judgment is everything, we’re told to not let it affect us. Well, we’re only humans. We have real feelings and emotions.

It’s also frustrating when your biggest support system doesn’t even support you either. Your family and friends are supposed to be there through it all, the good and the bad right? Sometimes I’ll spit out ideas that I truly take pride in, just to be laughed at. And I’m not going to lie it hurts, a lot.

So I’m here to tell you that although it may hurt, don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t accomplish your dreams. Be angry and cry, but never let those people stop you from achieving your dreams.

Being an optimist surrounded by pessimists is a challenge. There is something about a negative attitude that just makes me cringe. Life is precious and short. Find the positive things in life and do the things that make you happy. Let the people who doubt you be your motivation to achieve your dreams. Dream big, because in a world full of wonderful opportunities, you never know what could be.

When someone asks me what I want to be when I grow up, without hesitation I answer, “successful.” And I promise you that one day, I will be.
