Athletes showcased their skills during the Terps Got Talent Show

Who knew Women’s track and field could move to Jbiebs?

UMD’s student-athletes showed they’re capable of more than just shooting hoops, scoring touchdowns, and hitting home-runs during Thursday night’s inaugural “Terps Got Talent Student-Athlete Talent Show” at the XFINITY Center.

The talent show, hosted by Will Bonaparte of the men’s lacrosse team and Brene Moseley of the women’s basketball team, raised money for TerpThon – a student-run organization at UMD that raises funds and awareness For The Kids at our local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital – and featured a number of acts, including original skits, stand-up comedy, dancing, singing, and violin playing.

The student-athletes performed in front of a panel of five judges: Miracle Children Jaiwen and Colton, and three Maryland alumni – Pro Baseball Player Justin Maxwell, Terrapin Club Scholarship Member Don Scheeler, and M Club President Elect Jessie Echard-Hill.

Terps linebacker Abner Logan didn’t perform in the show, but came to cheer on his fellow student athletes.

He told The Tab: “The acts were overall really good. But my favorite was definitely my boy Evan. He killed it with the standup routine.”

This was the Student Athlete Advisory Committee’s (SAAC) third year putting on the talent show, and this year it was able to donate $3,500 to TerpThon, which is $500 more than last year’s donation.

SAAC Vice President and Women’s Track & Field Team Member Alexandra Cimino, who co-organized the event, said she was thrilled with how the night went.

“It’s so amazing to see all of these athletes showcase other talents that often go unnoticed, while at the same time supporting such a special organization like TerpThon,” she told The Tab.

Cimino called SAAC’s partnership with TerpThon “an honor,” and said she looks forward to growing that relationship and continuing the “Terps Got Talent” talent show.
