The Terps showed up big in loss to UNC

We have a lot to look forward to this season.

Maryland has always had a rivalry with UNC. For those who were Maryland fans before the Big Ten switch, it was a rivalry only trumped by Duke. This was a big game, and the Terps showed it.

Melo Trimble was amazing. He finished with 23 points and 12 assists, both team highs.

Rasheed Sulaimon was on fire from three, going 5 of 9 from beyond the arc.

Robert Carter also showed some good flashes with his paint scoring.

It seemed like our biggest weapons were all clicking at the right times and hitting the biggest shots.

Don’t get me wrong, there were a lot of mistakes.

Early on turnovers became a problem. Maryland ended up finishing the game with 22. UNC rolled with this and kept up the defensive intensity.

The Terps let UNC take an early lead and it took a comeback surge before the half to get them within range.

Jared Nickens and Jake Layman did not look like themselves either. Collectively they shot 3 of 11 from the floor and scored only 10 points.

On top of it, the team finished with 16 assists and Trimble had 12 of them.

If the Terps want to win the tournament, then they need to cut the turnovers and EVERYONE needs to show up.

The bright side for all the Terps faithful out there: this is a chemistry problem.

That means as the season goes on, they will get better.

Losing to a team like UNC, with a player like Marcus Paige coming back, and playing in an arena like that away from home… It’s not a surprising loss.

There’s a lot more season left and hey, maybe we’ll even get some revenge in the tournament.
