What events do students actually want UPB to plan?

‘Ask DJ Khaled to come make a motivational speech’

The University Program Board (UPB) is always hard at work trying to make college life in Harrisonburg more enjoyable for JMU students by planning fun and even educational events outside of the classroom.

The Tab asked JMU students about the events they wish UPB would actually plan for this semester.

Erica, Sophomore, Nursing and Jiyon, Freshman, Biology

“We’ve seen that at some schools they bring in animals during finals week, like a miniature petting zoo, to help students take a break from studying and distress. It’d be really cool if UPB could do that here. Who doesn’t like cuddling and playing with animals?”

Nick, Sophomore, ISAT

“I’ve been to one of the comedian shows and I really enjoyed that. For the Spring Concert I hope that Fetty Wap comes. Everyone around campus has been talking about it and it seems he’s the most popular choice.”

Brianna, Junior, Health Science

“I would like to see more events planned on Friday and Saturday nights. It’d be fun to attend a party open to all students in Madison Union.”

Olivia, Sophomore, Biophysical Chemistry

“I love concerts. I went to Big Sean last year and that was a blast! Also I wish they’d plan more events during the week later at night because I’m busy during the weekend.”

Sarah, Senior, English

“This is totally just me being a broke college student, but I would love for the showings of the movies at Grafton to be free. When the prices started to go up it became less appealing for students, like myself, to want to spend money on something when there are other things that our money could go towards. It would be nice to be able to go unwind and watch a free movie at a theater with your friends after a long day of classes.”

Quintin, Junior, Dietetics

“I just want to see Childish Gambino in concert.”

Hannah, Junior, Math and Melanie, Junior, Biology

“We really enjoy Funny Freakin’ Fridays that happens in TDU, it’s a great start to our weekends and they have free campus cookies. It would be entertaining if they would schedule more comedian acts on Friday nights.”

John, Sophomore, Engineering

“Besides the concerts, it would be cool to have an art show case that featured work from students, even if they aren’t an Art major.”

Lynda, Sophomore, SMAD

“I would like to see more musical events with popular artists, like Kehlani and Bryson Tiller. I think UPB should ask DJ Khaled to come make a motivational speech. I don’t know how others feel about him, but I believe watching his daily Snapchat story with the keys to more success (notice how I said more) are essential to every college student. He’s living life happily and making money. We need him to come to JMU.”
