Everything you wanted to know about Kev Cab

The cab man in the blue van

Occupation: Cab driver.

Cat’s name: Tubby.

Never underestimate the guy behind the wheel of the blue wagon. One minute he is Snapchatting his favorite customers and the next he is saving the lives of under-dressed girls filing out of Summit. But there has to be something more than just a cab driver under that safari hat, Kevan Allison reveals his secrets and tells what it really means to be Kev Cab.

Of course, Kev wouldn’t comment on his age, but he did inform us he has been in the cab industry for 7 years now and loves it. He tells us that Kev Cab means the freedom to run his own business which he must have learned right here in Iowa City!

Kev is a graduate of the University of Iowa and now lives here and enjoys the events of the Hawkeye nation (or picking people up from them, anyway).

Kev says: “Technology has changed Iowa City for the better,” as he uses his smart phone to keep track of all the ladies in need of rides to and from downtown.

One thing you cant miss if you have been driven by Kev, is his voice always making you smile. The subtle accent  flowing through his, “Hi darling, how are you?” when you enter the cab, and, “It’s always a pleasure,” when you exit, always had me wondering where he came from. Well folks, we have answers for the mystery behind Kev Cab’s accent.

Kev came to America at the age of 16 from Cape Town, South Africa. He names this as his, “most life changing event”. Imagine, if Kev never made that 8,486 mile journey, where would we be? Taking Yellow Cab? Cambus??? Thank you Kev for taking on this adventure. Here in the Iowa, you are needed by many stumbling Hawkeyes.

Although Kev’s hometown is worlds away from us, it’s not difficult for him to get back! Kev can just get in a plane and fly it there himself. Yes, Kev knows how to fly a plane. He has even jumped out of one. Kev has no problem taking risks, I mean, clearly, he is an Iowa City cab driver.

Kev is no newbie to this Hawkeye town. He loves Iowa City’s very own Formosa, but would much rather be cooking his own steak on the grill. Living around so many college students and interacting with them day by day, he is a busy guy. Kev has no time for TV; he doesn’t even own one. Kevan clearly knows what he is talking abut when it comes to not only college students, but Hawkeyes themselves. His greatest advice to all of us: “Don’t get into debt.”

Kev sticks to this statement considering his going rate for the average broke college kid is only 2 bucks. So although he might say Formosa is his favorite restaurant, you might want to stick to the meal plans if you really want to follow Kev’s advice.

Kev is the local celebrity cab driver, and of course he has his perks of hearing all the latest of Iowa City gossip, but there are some downsides to being such a great driver. You are wanted at all times!

He says the most difficult part is being at two places at once. We all know, that two minute warning really means five, but we don’t mind Kev, because as long as we are driving in the big blue van, were willing to wait the extra time.
