Get ready to get your Galentine’s Day on

‘X chromosomes before Y bromosomes’ and ‘Uteruses before duderuses’

Valentine’s Day is approaching and some of us are just not into it.

It’s just commercial propaganda. Chocolates get expensive, everything gets romantic, restaurants look down upon lone customers and some of us just can’t handle all the ‘love in the air.’

Galentine’s Day on the other hand — now that’s a special day. The calm before the storm.

Whether or not you know Leslie Knope is unimportant, this celebration needs to spread across the globe. It’s a wonderful day where you and your girlfriends just do everything there is to do. No limits. Also, Galentine’s Day is forgiving, you don’t even have to be single to celebrate it.

Feb 13th, leave your boyfriends or all the guys you’re just “hanging out” with and do ‘treat yo self’ to these activities in Bloomington.

Food for female empowerment

Screw the diet. Find breakfast foods for all meals. Go to three restaurants to fulfill one meal’s requirements. There are no rules. And Bloomington has some great eatery picks. Here’s some of my favorites.

The Runcible Spoon

It’s cozy. It’s local. It’s one of those places where you can just spend questionable amounts of time. It’s perfect for Galentine’s Day because they offer good food at a decent price. Pancakes for dinner? Yes, please. They have homey bookshelves, couches and a very interesting washroom. Plus, they have mimosas.

BuffaLouie’s

There’s no set definition of how Galentine’s Day is celebrated. Fancy restaurants, chicken wings, a pint of ice cream? In this weird weather, wings are comfort food in their own way. Get 50 wings, sit with your girls and talk!!

Or just order Baked!

Fool-proof and utterly satisfying. Order a dozen — or three dozen — cookies and watch a generic movie. And always remember, if you’re with your gals, nobody’s going to judge you for talking with food in your mouth or that the food in question is six whole cookies.

While on the subject, here are some great Galentine’s Day picks to consider:

  1.  Life Partners
  2.  Clueless
  3. Crossroads
  4. A League Of Their Own
  5. Hours of binging Parks and Recreation

Coffee dates are crucial

TREAT YO SELF!

Galantine’s Day is about women feeling good and confident. So why not indulge?

Nail packages: There’s something almost therapeutic about getting your nails done and a lot of the good nail solons and spas around campus that offer pretty neat deals. Crimson Nails and Spa has a  15% off for all students.

Valentine’s Day Sales: Good sales are the only aspect of Valentine’s Day that makes it tolerable. The Body Shop, Calvin Klein, Kate Spade (75%!!), Forever21 and basically every other place has offers around the day.

Spa packages: If you’re feeling extra fancy and are willing to spend a few bucks then there is no better way to treat yo self! An average spa package is around $150 dollars but if you haven’t splurged yet and deserve the much needed break, GO FOR IT.

Best mimosas: Nope, let’s just upgrade to better vodka. We’re in college.

Galentine’s Day is just one of those days where you can thank your girlfriends for being there, looking out for you. Don’t let single Valentine’s Day bum you out, totally not worth it and always remember you deserve to have a great day with your favorite females in your life.
