Newborn baby dies in Illinois dorm room

A student gave birth in Bousfield Hall last night

Campus police say investigation of the birth and death of a baby in a University of Illinois dorm is underway. A news release this morning said that a student living in Bousfield Hall had reportedly been in the restroom of her dorm for multiple hours.

Police were sent to the dorms on Sunday night, but the student told them she had a stomach flu and didn’t need help. However after receiving further information police returned at around 7.30pm and it was discovered that the baby had been born earlier in the day in the hall’s restroom.

The student confirmed to police she had given birth earlier that day and that the deceased baby boy was in her backpack. An autopsy is scheduled for later today, Tuesday, March 15th. The University Police Department asks that anyone with information, immediately contact their department at 217-333-1216.
