Football players donate rehabilitation equipment to paralyzed Georgetown linebacker

‘Just being able to know that I’m not just fighting by myself really helps get me through it’

After becoming paralyzed during the first game of the season in 2015, Tyrell Williams, Georgetown football linebacker, has a positive outlook for the future. Knowing his current circumstance will not be permanent he says, “I’m not meant to sit in this chair.”

Tuesday, during the Washington Legends Football Gala, this road to recovery took a monumental leap in the right direction. The money raised during this event was used to purchase two rehabilitation equipments that were not covered by Williams’ insurance. Both the standing frame and the FES cycle, machines facilitating blood flow and strength recovery,  will further help re-establish a state of normalcy that began with his return to Georgetown second semester.

He acknowledges that these decisions exhibiting a strong-willed demeanor of his would not have been possible without , “a lot of people in my corner backing me up”.

Coming back to school was the beginning of a journey that is not over. Williams has various things on his agenda including working with doctors twice a week at the National Rehabilitation Hospital, managing to operate his own wheelchair, and resuming his studies as a Government major. One thing that he does not have time for? Stagnancy. This fight is not over and he will continue pushing forward with the help of the multiple supportive communities around him. “Just being able to know that I’m not just fighting by myself really helps get me through it.”
