An ode to Landis Green

I will always love you

Florida State University students are well aware of just how beautiful our campus is. With the brick buildings and old style architecture, FSU has a similar feel to Northeastern campuses and allows you to forget every once in a while that you’re in Florida at all. In the middle of campus, positioned between streets and buildings, is a beautiful spot of greenery and nature: Landis Green.

Landis Green is a magnificent area where you can escape the hustle and bustle of a very busy campus for a while. During the Fall semester, the grass is always healthy and full, providing a perfect place to lounge between classes, do some homework, or maybe have a picnic with the lunch you just picked up from Chick-Fil-A. There is almost always something going on around the green, whether it’s a group of students tabling for an organization or a pick-up game of frisbee or a giant yoga session at sunset, music and all.

As someone who lives on campus, I wouldn’t be able to survive without Landis. Living on campus is very similar to living in a city: you are indoors more often than not, and if you don’t have any form of transportation, getting out and surrounding yourself with new scenery is a bit difficult. Landis Green is the perfect escape from your loud roommate or all that homework you’re avoiding – just bring a picnic blanket, maybe some headphones, and you’ve got a lovely afternoon of people watching and relaxing under the sun.

The best part of Landis Green, without a doubt, is the dogs. Landis is never without at least one or two puppies running around and playing, and more often than not, the owners are perfectly happy to let you interact with their pooches. Without even trying, you can make new friends due to your love of dogs just by being out there. There are also events put on revolving around lovable pooches such as Coping Through College’s get-togethers where you can play with more than forty dogs to eliminate your stress and fill your heart with love, or various sororities putting on photoshoots with puppies to support charities.

No matter what you’re looking for– a quiet break from classes, a place to play some sports or do some yoga, a spot to do some homework or have a picnic – Landis Green is the place to go. As the winter months approach, the grass will get a little duller and the green will lose many of its guests due to the cold, but it is still the best place on campus no matter what time of year it is.
