Do’s and don’ts of FSU game day fashion

Garnet and gold is a must

It’s the best time of the year here at Florida State. That’s right, you guessed it, football season! Game days are always better when you feel good about how you look, and with all the festivities that go along with games, you’re going to want the right attire. You always want to hear someone say, “Wow, your outfit looks so trendy!” While we want to look nice for games, it’s difficult because there’s always the thought process though of how to look cute for a game when it’s 90 degrees outside. So stress no more, your guide to successful game day attire is here.

Do the DIY throwback

This is perfect for those ridiculously hot afternoon games where you know you’re going to sweat no matter what you wear. Throw your hair in a high pony with a few strands pulled out front- it’s still super cute but you’ll feel a million times cooler. Remember back in the day when it was cool it cut up shirts and put your own style to them? We’ll get ready, because that is definitely back. Who would’ve thought a $10 cut up shirt from Walmart would look fashionable paired with a denim skirt? This outfit has school spirit, personality, and it’s breathable for the dreadful heat. I think I found my outfit for this weekend.

Don’t wear sleeves

Unless it’s below 60 degrees outside, then everyone will be questioning why you have sleeves on. Replace the jeans with jeans skirts and you are set. Sleeves tend to get annoying and make you extra hot. I prefer to have my arms bare and my shirts baggy.

Do the Jersey Girl

Running late or don’t have any clean garnet or gold shirts? Time to break out the jersey. Whether you buy it from an athletic store or Target a jersey is a jersey. This is perfect for almost any game as long as it is hot! The holes ventilate your entire body, for the most amazing feeling all game. What I also love about this look is you really don’t have to try to make it look cute; the jersey does all the work for you. It’s what I like to call the “win-win” outfit.

Don’t forget to wear something underneath

Jerseys are kind of see through, so a bralette or a small tank top is a smart decision. We want to leave what’s underneath up to the imagination, but we also want to stay cool in the Florida heat. Definitely don’t forget to wear shorts, though!

Do wear high tops

Converse, whether they are white, black or garnet, they are a must. No shoe is more comfortable while stillbeing trendy. Let’s not forget that closed toed shoes are sometimes a necessity when it comes to tailgating (frat houses can be gross).

Don’t wear flip flops

You are just asking for a disaster. Flip flops slide off easily and if you are even just slightly intoxicated an accident is most likely in your future. Just do yourself a favor and keep the flops for the beach trips.

Do wear a choker

The choker is the kind of necklace that completes any look. My favorite part about these are their variety. It doesn’t matter if it’s a simple black or brown leather one or if it’s a fancy tie chocker, they are all perfect in their own way. A simple garnet tank-top could be topped off with a nice brown tie chocker necklace and you are game day ready.

Don’t make too much of a statement

Big statement jewelry or wearing five different types of choker/necklaces together is much too much for a game day. All those accessories are excessive and will eventually get in the way. Although you don’t want to make too much of a statement, still take risks when it comes to game day outfits. Whether we win or lose, you’ll still be looking trendy in your garnet and gold.
