Florida State University is hands down the best school around

There are many truly fantastic universities, FSU is just better

From the moment most people step onto the Florida State campus there is one word felt throughout the masses: home. It is a beautiful university with nearly endless buildings and walkways paved with beautiful red brick, and full of history, tradition, and spirit. Anyone could walk around and see the rich history paved through each and every brick, as well as feel the love students and faculty have for their school.

FSU is a nationally recognized campus, but following the 2013 National Championship many think that the football team is what makes the school so great. While the football team is definitely a huge part of FSU, there are still so many other parts of the university that make it the renowned school that it is.

Student organizations

At Florida State there are over 700 registered student organizations to get involved in. Whether it is a hobby like sailing, community service or even just cats in general there is a club for it. If there’s not, then it only takes ten people to come together and get the ball rolling on forming a brand new organization. From the hobby and sport clubs, to the academic and professional groups it is essentially almost impossible not to find something that fits everyone’s needs.

Campus resources

College is a confusing, exciting and terrifying time for students, but with the right resources it can be much easier. FSU has countless places to turn to for a variety of student needs. The Career Center looks over resumes and performs mock interviews, the Academic Center for Excellence has tutoring for an insane number or courses and topics, the Leach fitness center is equipped with three floors of equipment, with constant fitness classes and an indoor pool, sauna and steam room, and so much more. Oh, and they are all free.

Sports

While Florida State has quite a few award-winning teams, there are so many others that are an absolute blast to go out and support. From the big ones, like football, basketball and baseball, to the smaller campus sports, like soccer, softball, ultimate frisbee, volleyball and even quidditch, there is always something to go watch. On top of that, there are a bounty of club sports and intramural sports for anyone to try their hand at.

Traditions

At FSU nothing is boring. There are so many things to do, and a great deal of campus traditions to take part in. One of the most common to see is the 21st birthday dunk in Wescott Fountain, which usually just ends up in the entire group of friends getting thrown or jumping in as well. Another big tradition is the beating of the drum outside of Doak Campbell Stadium for 72 hours leading up to kickoff of the big home games, against schools such as University of Florida and University of Miami. Anyone can go up to the drum and beat on it a few times too, so especially on game day people like to line up to take a swing.

Tallahassee Treasures

When most people think of Tallahassee the first thought that comes to mind is the state capital, but this city goes far past just that. Tallahassee, or Tally as many like to call is, has an incredible amount to offer past its political sphere. If food is the craving, there are so many incredible, local places to grab a bite, like Midtown Caboose for burgers and Oleans for the best soul food of your life. For the coffee conesuir there are places such as Lucky Goat, All Saints, Red Eye, and Black Dog Café to grab a cup of joe and work on assignments. Of course after so much food and drink a walk might be nice through one of the many parks, like Lake Ella, Maclay Gardens and Cascades.

Florida State University is a breathtaking campus, with something to offer for absolutely everyone. It is a wonderful place for a quick visit, and a truly incredible college town for students to get used to being an adult on their. Other universities surely are fantastic institutions, FSU is just better.
